Environmental Solutions & Innovations, Inc. (ESI) conducts heritage and natural resource services, civil engineering, and wetlands and waterways projects across the U.S.
Their clients range from large multinational corporations to individual landowners
After more than two field seasons using Ecobot, ESI project manager Scott Denham and his team of four delineators had dramatically streamlined their project timelines—and their profit margins in tandem. Clients were attracted by ESI’s proven efficiency, digitized workflow, and ability to deliver field data in real-time thanks to Ecobot, and Denham had seen an overall increase in bids won, including a complex 50-mile pipeline project along the southern coastal plain of Alabama.
Challenge
Compounding an aggressive 30-day timeline to survey a 50-mile corridor, the ESI team faced abnormal weather and land access issues, plus an unusual abundance of wetlands, with up to 20 wetlands identified in mile-long stretches and along difficult terrain.
Solution
The delineation team collected 35+ sample points per day using Ecobot, totaling 570 points, with 344 wetlands identified and mapped in under 30 days. Cross-team data normalization and centralized cloud-based data management and storage allowed the PM to review and QA the team’s fieldwork in near real-time in order to complete the project ahead of schedule.
Results
- Beat timeline and profit margin expectations
- 10 hours of QA/QC saved for PM
- 50 hours of post-fieldwork data sheet cleanup saved for field team, with more sample points/day collected than ever before
- Entire scope of work, including report preparation and USACE regulatory submittals, completed within the month
“I was able to get data from the field team at 2:00 pm on Friday every week. I could then complete some quality checks and submit the entire week’s delineation results to the client by 5:00 pm - rather than sorting through them all weekend.”
